history of Pauri Garhwal can be traced back to ancient times. The region was known as Kedar Khand in ancient Hindu texts and was considered a sacred place by the followers of Lord Shiva. It was also an important center of Buddhism during the 6th century AD. and ruled by various dynasties throughout history, including the Chand dynasty and the Katyuri dynasty. British East India Company annexed the region in 1816 and it became part of the British Raj.
